One evening a few years ago, I watched the radar screen on television as a line of intense thunderstorms moved toward my location. The weather system glowed like a string of orange and red pearls on the radar, lining up to move over me like a long violent freight train. Multiple tornadoes formed as I sat mesmerized by the onscreen images.

It looked scary. Meteorologists on tv sounded concerned as they repeated urgent warnings for those in the path of the storms to take shelter.

At the time, I was the sole human resident on our 40 acre homestead, with the nearest neighbor a mile away. Nestled in a little mountain “hollow” surrounded by timbered hills, my home is lovely, pastoral – and really isolated.

One thing was clear: I knew I did not want to embody the negativity of fear, yet I felt so alone and vulnerable. As I felt my energy “slipping,” I knew it was time to call in reinforcements to help “hold love.”

So I phoned a handful of friends located around the US and we convened on a tele-conferencing bridge to hold and focus love. There were 5 or 6 of us gathered.

We met for maybe 30 minutes, sending a clear, strong signal of loving intention into the leading edge of the storm system.

After adjourning this virtual meeting, I felt buoyed by the loving connection experienced with my friends. I shifted from being apprehensive to feeling peaceful while continuing to watch the developing weather patterns.

To my amazement, the string of storms that had been rapidly approaching, began to break apart and go around me. Cells still formed and reformed, but with less intensity and they completely missed me.

It was really exciting to feel so empowered, to think that maybe, here IS a way a small group of people can effect a positive outcome in a negative situation.

But – there was a big “sticking point.”

Everyone who took part in this process said they felt really drained the next day. The general consensus was that yes, we wanted to “hold light” in “troubled” situations, but in truth, we were unable to give as much as we wanted to because it cost us dearly in energy.

In the summer of 2011, an internal whisper started asking me to explore holding the focus of love with one major difference: Absolutely no attachment to outcome. No agenda. No need. Just ….love.

That inner voice continued to share with me, suggesting that much of what mankind thinks is “loving” is actually an expression of a need to control, based in attachment to outcome.

Control can wear a lot of masks, including giving generously of one’s time and energy. Even prayer, the whisper continued, can be an attempt to have something turn out the way our human minds and egos think they it “should.”

So what is a loving light holder to do?

How do we truly embody love – with no strings? And – how do we offer that love to others, to situations, without attempting to influence the outcome in a specific way?

Answering those questions is what Lean Into Love is about. Together we dance with those questions, exploring how we hold shared focus and intention, while managing our own energies.

Managing our own energies is key in this unfolding adventure. The guidance from the inner voice has emphasized the need for those who care so deeply to allow themselves to feel cared for. And for the givers to learn to receive.

The Guidance that came through in our first L2L (Lean Into Love) call told us that if we go to love first, we can face pain without getting caught or lost in it.

So the first part of each month’s call is focused on filling those gathered with love, before we ever turn attention to needs outside of ourselves. Guidance suggested the L2L calls are like a “cosmic truck stop” for weary Souls on the road of life, a place to get your tanks filled so you can continue to do what you are here to do: Embody the light of love on this planet at this time.

As a community, we are journeying through a new landscape with unfamiliar maps. We are called to learn a new way of navigating our changing inner and outer worlds, and through this to expand our understanding of what it means to BE love.

If your Soul resonates with what you’ve read here, please join us on the Lean Into Love calls. Upon joining this group, you will receive access information for the monthly call. Once registered, you will also have the option of listening to the recording of each month’s call for 48 hours afterward.
